Care Team Referral
Care Team Referral
The Buffalo State University CARE team provides guidance and assistance to students who are experiencing crisis, displaying unusual behaviors, or engaging in behaviors that may be perceived as being harmful (either to the student themselves, or to others).

The CARE team accepts referrals and responds to students (and their families, faculty, and staff) when concerns for a student’s health, welfare, and safety are identified.

There may be other offices more appropriate to address this concern, refer to the Dean of Students’ office’s website for additional supports.

The CARE team DOES NOT respond directly to emergencies.  If you feel threatened or are aware that someone is in extreme distress or at risk for immediate, significant harm to themselves or others, please IMMEDIATELY call University Police at (716) 878-6333 (for on-campus emergencies) or 911 (for off-campus emergencies).

Risk of harm includes: 1) stating an intention to harm themselves; 2) expressing suicidal thoughts or preoccupation with suicide; 3) indirectly or directly threatening violence toward others; 4) brandishing or using a firearm or other weapon; and 5) engaging in behavior that creates a risk of injury to self or another person (e.g., stalking).

The CARE team does not respond to Title IX concerns (e.g., dating violence, gender-based violence, discrimination, sexual assault, or harassment).  Please refer to the Equity and Diversity office for additional guidance and resources.
